2015 | Portland ME portrait photographer rachel withers

2015 comes with exciting changes in my business.  Over the last two years, I've been photographing many in-home sessions–first for newborn shoots and then gradually expanding to include family sessions.  I've come to love the challenge and beauty of photographing  life in each family's home and  am happy to announce that my sessions this year will be exclusively in and around the home. This new direction  brings things full  circle for me as a photographer–when I was in photo school my senior classes were spent documenting the life of the four kids I babysat at the time. Their childhood and capturing  the every day moments in their lives is what  really grabbed me as a photographer.

To that end, I'll be participating in a weekly photo project  with the theme "Day in the Life". I'm looking forward to growing my skills and documenting my own  life in our own home & neighborhood

Meet Lily & Caleb | in-home lifestyle family portrait session

Each year I photograph my niece & nephew  around their birthdays. This summer I spent time capturing them at their now [old] home and documenting a little bit of who they are at  this stage. Caleb [1], with his big eyes, baby curls and hearty appetite, just learning to toddle and  Lily [3] whose most treasured possessions are arguably her toolbox set  and Goofy (she sleeps with both) and favorite activities include wearing "long sleeves" and painting . They are so much fun–  and of course, growing up way too fast.

My life | Portland, ME photographer Rachel Withers

Summer seems to have wrapped up here in Maine with temperatures dropping into the 50s and us pulling out all our long sleeves. A drastic difference from last week which was one of our hottest here so far.

My family was in town and we spent the week visiting some of our favorite spots–Sebago Lake, Mackworth Island, Two Lights State Park, and a few beaches. It was the kids' first time seeing the ocean, lighthouses, foghorns and the like! It flew by but it was a great week. :)

A New York update

As many of you know, my husband Chris recently finished medical school! It has been a crazy busy spring as we've been on the road constantly these last few months.  Last week we made the move from New York to Portland, ME for his residency program. As we settle into our new home,  I'm looking forward to getting back to shooting sessions.

Before moving, we checked off an item on our New York bucklist–a visit to the George Washington Bridge. The pedestrian lane on the bridge provides a gorgeous view of the city–definitely worth your visit. While you're there be sure to check out the little red lighthouse right underneath.

I'm currently scheduling portrait sessions in Portland, ME but will be shooting sessions in New York a few times a year so please contact me if you're interested for my available dates.

Finally, a big thank you to all the families who I've met these last few years in New York. It has been a great growing and learning experience for me and I'm grateful for your support!
